Children and Families: Tapestry of Waves
Sunday, September 20
Weave a sculptural tapestry that fills the fields and rocks in the wind like waves in the water. Participants will be invited to tie blue yarn, ribbon, and fabric onto poles sunk into the ground at intervals throughout a large area of ground. Textiles will be strung from pole to pole and as the wind catches this monochromatic creation, it will shake and blow in the wind as a tapestry of waves in an ocean of fields. Organized with Free Style Arts Association.
This family program will take place alongside our final concert of the 2015 Outdoor Concert Series, featuring The Feelies with special guest Alex Bleeker and the Freaks. Soak up the last days of summer as you take in views of the Art Center’s celebrated sculpture collection while enjoying live music and art-making with the whole family. Be sure to stop by the all-natural, locally-sourced ice cream stand and hot dog bar.
Free Style Arts Association is a group of artists that create participatory public sculptures. For the past 15 years, they have been engaging people in public places, inviting them to engage in projects such as painting on their suits, adding to collaborative sculptures of hula hoops, drawing with remote control cars, playing music on giant xylophones, and creating city-blocks-long string sculptures. Their sculptures manifest as commissions by community-based art funders, museums, galleries, schools, colleges, and businesses, to build a community’s creative confidence and interest in the arts.
Family programming is supported by the Cynthia Hazen Polsky and Leon B. Polsky Fund for Family Programs and the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation.
