SUMMARY:Message from the Mud: A Conversation with Anicka Yi & Rana Disgupta
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n2:00PM: Artist Conversation\nJoin artist Anicka Yi and au
thor Rana Dasgupta for a conversation anchored by Message from the Mud\, Y
i’s first large-scale outdoor installation. In their respective work\, b
oth Yi and Dasgupta consider life and interdependence in the context of hu
man and non-human systems across vast timescales\, offering new ways to un
derstand the past\, metabolize our present\, and open pathways to imagine
new futures.\n\n3:15PM: Before Skeletons\, Before Teeth\nFollowing the tal
k\, guests are invited to explore the work and enjoy Before Skeletons\, Be
fore Teeth\, a prehistoric culinary experience by Anicka Yi with Care of C
han.\n\n Free with admission\, no registration required\n Program locati
on: meet in South Ponds by Tram Stop #2 / Map #810\n\nSpeaker Bios\n\nAnic
ka Yi (b.1971 in Seoul\, South Korea) is a Korean-American conceptual arti
st known for her focus on olfaction and her use of unorthodox\, living\, a
nd perishable materials. Informed by scientific research\, biology\, and p
erfumers\, Yi has produced a unique body of work over the past decade at t
he intersection of politics and macrobiotics. Her practice questions the i
ncreasingly hazy taxonomic distinctions between what is human\, animal\, p
lant\, and machine\, and is the result of an alchemical process of experim
entation that explores often incompatible materials. She collaborates with
researchers to create media that are often inherently political and delve
s into the cultural conditioning of sense and perception in a way she desc
ribes as “biopolitics of the senses."\n\nHer diverse installations\, whi
ch draw on scientific concepts and techniques to activate vivid fictional
scenarios\, ask incisive questions about human psychology and the workings
of society. Yi's work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions a
t institutions around the world\, including the Leeum Museum of Art\, Seou
 l\; Pirelli Hangar Bicocca\, Milan\; Tate Modern\, London\; the Solomon R.
Guggenheim Museum\, New York\; and the List Visual Arts Center\, MIT\, Ca
mbridge\, Massachusetts\; among many others.\n\nRana Dasgupta is the autho
r of “Solo” and “Capital: A Portrait of Delhi in the Twenty-First Ce
ntury.”  His latest book\, “After Nations: The Making &amp\; Unmaking
of a World Order” offers a global history of the nation-state\, and a d
iagnosis of the large-scale transition engulfing the world today.  He is
the recipient of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize\, the Windham-Campbell
Prize and the The Ryszard Kapuściński Award.  He lives in France. \n\n
\n\nACCESSIBILITY\nRestrooms\nThere are no restrooms immediately nearby th

between the paved pathway and the restroom enclosures. Accessible single-u

ts made with less notice.\n\nIf you have questions or need other accommoda
