Moonlit Walking Tour
Saturday, September 26
THIS TOUR IS NOW FULL. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the waiting list.
See Storm King by moonlight for the last time this season on this special after-hours tour. RSVP by September 23 to email@example.com.
While enjoying a guided tour, participants will have the unique opportunity to see Hills and Clouds (2014), a sculpture by Lynda Benglis that glows after dark. The work is installed at Storm King as a part of the special exhibition, Lynda Benglis: Water Sources. Benglis, who created her first phosphorescent piece in 1971, has long been intrigued by natural phosphorescence, whether found in bioluminescent waters and phosphorescent caves or in the glow of fireflies. She also cites the glow-in-the-dark displays at funhouses that she visited as a child as early influences. With Hills and Clouds, Benglis has said, “I wanted to imply something that appears to rise instead of being connected entirely to the earth.”
The walk will be 45 minutes to an hour in length and will cover a distance of up to 2 miles. The walk may include uneven terrain, long grass, and wet ground. Please bring flashlights, proper walking shoes, wear light-colored clothing, and use bug spray to repel insects and ticks. Required check-in begins at 7:15pm.
Children requiring strollers cannot be accommodated given the terrain.
All registrants will be emailed instructions and required waivers.
Benglis designed Peace of Heaven, a phosphorescent limited edition, specifically made for Storm King Art Center. To view this and other items designed by the artist and available for purchase at the event and online, click here.
