Holten created these series of drawings of shadows while at Storm King. In their titles, each memorializes a single instant in time. Displayed together, the drawings chart subtle, often overlooked differences between fleeting, consecutive moments. Deprived of their referents, the drawings become abstract and lyrical, despite their direct relationship to the shadows of the natural world, and to the landscape within which they are displayed.
