RONI HORN

For Roni Horn, Iceland’s extreme climate and landscape have long provided "an open-air studio of unlimited scale and newness." These photographs depict their subject, Margrét H. Blõndal, submerged in hot springs across Iceland. As Horn has said of an earlier series taken of Blõndal: "Those changes, that range of emotion…were in fact provoked by the weather. It's the sun in her eyes, it's snowing, it's windy. When you are in the room with her it’s as though you've provoked those responses, you become the weather." The photographs capture and conflate personal and atmospheric changes; Iceland’s unstable weather is on display in Blõndal's face.
