Care Attendant: Admission is free for care attendants accompanying a visitor with a disability

We are pleased to offer free admission to schools that receive Title I funding, as well as all public schools from Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan counties.

*Note: One chaperone is required for every ten students, including high school students. To ensure a safe and enjoyable trip to Storm King, please communicate our guidelines and share pre-visit materials with chaperones attending.

Guided Walking Tours
$125 per 25 people/free for public Regional and Title I schools

Students and chaperones will spend 45-60 minutes with a museum educator exploring three to four artworks through close looking and inquiry-based discussions. Students may be invited to engage in activities such as writing, drawing, and/or movement to express their observations. Be prepared for moderate walking on uneven terrain. More accessible routes may be planned with advanced notice.

Choose one of our three thematic tours, which allow students to approach the art through a specific lens, both at Storm King and in the classroom. An accompanying teacher resource for each theme helps teachers prepare students for their visit, as well as offers recommendations for post-visit activities.

1. Art & Landscape—Investigate the ways in which art and landscape interact and support one another at Storm King Art Center. Educators may build the experience around site-specific artwork, earthwork, or landscape architecture.
2. Sculpture: A 3-D Experience—Explore elements of design like form, scale, abstraction, and positive and negative space through sculpture sited in the landscape. Discover how artists express their ideas through three-dimensional forms and how sculpture differs from painting and drawing.
3. Material Matters—Compare the variety of sculptural materials on view at Storm King and consider how material impacts meaning. Educators may build the experience around process, texture, the use of everyday objects, or juxtaposing materials.

Tram Tour
$225 per tram (47 seats)
The Tram Tour consists of a tram ride around the grounds accompanied by a pre-recorded audio track, which includes information about Storm King’s history, art, and landscape. The content will be suited to the age of the participants in your group, with conversation prompts and questions for the students to consider. Length: 30-45 minutes. Trams are wheelchair accessible and can accommodate two wheelchairs.

Storm King is pleased to offer Teacher Resources to support teachers in creating dynamic connections between the Art Center and the classroom. These thematic resources offer pre-visit ideas to prepare for your trip, tips and tools for onsite engagement, and post-visit activity prompts for continued exploration.

Lunch
Picnic tables are available on a first come, first served basis at the designated North and South Picnic Areas. Please help our staff maintain a clean environment for all our visitors by picking up after your group and placing all trash and recycling into bins.

Lunch Pre-Orders
Group lunches are available for pre-order directly from our café partner, Kitchen Sink. Orders must be submitted 5 days prior to your visit. Browse the menu or place your order here.

Note for school groups bringing lunch: On arrival, our staff will work with you to determine when and where your group will picnic. We are happy to transport your lunches to the picnic area, but please assist us by packing all items neatly in a cooler, box, or bin.

Payment & Cancellation
Payment in-full must be received 2 weeks prior to your scheduled visit to secure booking (check or credit card). Detailed payment instructions will be included with a reservation confirmation.

Rescheduling is based upon availability during the same calendar year. Any cancellation made at least 4 weeks prior to the date of your visit will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 2–4 weeks in advance will be refunded 50%. Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the date of your visit will not be issued a refund.

Prepare for Your Visit 
Arrive prepared to spend the day outdoors traversing varied terrain, including wooded trails, paved and gravel paths, grassy fields and rolling hills. Participants are invited to ask questions and share observations while exploring four to five artworks in relation to the surrounding landscape. Guided tours last 45-60 minutes. Choose one of the following tour options.

Be prepared for moderate walking on uneven terrain. More accessible routes may be planned with advance notice. We strongly recommend groups reserving tours allot at least three hours for their visit to Storm King.

Storm King Art Center offers the following amenities and resources to facilitate an enjoyable experience for all groups. If your group has accessibility needs you would like us to know about, please make note of this in your request and feel free to reach out to our Groups Coordinator with any additional questions. Tram Loop: A free, wheelchair-accessible tram is available to help all visitors move around the site. Visitors may get on or off the tram at any of the scheduled stops. The Tram Loop includes pre-recorded announcements and transcripts are available in print or via QR code on the tram. Groups are invited to utilize the Tram Loop but please keep in mind that seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can view the Tram Loop route and schedule online or find it on the visitor map.

Free Tram Tour: When there is an accessibility need, and depending on availability, a free 30-minute Tram Tour can be provided to groups. The pre-recorded audio tour is available in print or via QR code on the tram. Must be reserved in advance.

Hearing Access: Assistive listening devices are available for group tours on request. The system can be used with headphones (provided) or with a neck loop for use with hearing aids with T-coils. Must be reserved in advance.

Touch Tours: Touch tours are available upon request for individual visitors who are blind or have low vision. A Storm King educator will guide the visitor through a tactile experience, exploring a variety of artworks and gloves will be provided to facilitate safe interaction with the artwork. Must be reserved in advance.
