Amy Frances (she/her) can’t call to memory her first yoga class, but she remembers what she had been looking for when she found it . . . “Church”. As a child, she grew up in the Catholic Church and this was Amy’s first connection to collective consciousness, not that she was aware of it at the time. Connecting to a feeling of being deeply grounded, also weightless and liberated, while being in community, would later lead her to yoga.
Amy completed her first 200hr training at Vera Yoga in New York City, in 2019. After the birth of her son in 2020, Amy returned home to the Hudson Valley, in need of community. She would find it at the Newburgh Yoga Shala. “The Shala is home, and the Sangha (community) is truth – The peace and clarity I work to connect with is ever present at the Shala and I drop right into that state of being. It’s a place that reminds me to find my center so I can find it more easily out in the world.” Her dedication to the practice led her to the teacher training program, which she completed in early April of this year.
“I want to bring people into the asana so they might be introduced to themselves and an entirely new world around them. My inner landscape has changed dramatically, simply by showing up for asana practice and breathing. It feels important to share that experience by teaching.”
You can find Amy teaching at the Newburgh Yoga Shala on Tuesdays at 9:30AM.
