Artist Residency

Applications are now open for the 2025 season of Shandaken: Storm King. Applications are due by 11:59 pm EST on March 16. Visit the Shandaken Projects website for more information and to apply.

Residency Overview
Shandaken: Storm King welcomes applications from individual artists for an opportunity to be hosted as a cohort of three at a time. In the application process, candidates may select stays of two or four weeks total. Please see the application guidelines for more details.

The facilities are well suited for painting, drawing, collage, research, writing, reflection, performance, and work that is community-driven or socially-based, land-based, or ephemeral. The residency provides free housing and studio facilities with the aim of supporting process and experimentation. Participants are offered private bedrooms, a 9-by-14-foot studio cabin a short walk from the residency house, and a shared space for projects that require access to electricity or water, as well as pantry staples and locally farmed produce.

About Shandaken Projects
Shandaken Projects supports cultural advancement through public programs and artist services. These opportunities are focused on process, experimentation, and dialogue, and are aimed particularly at important but under-served individuals. Through residency programs Shandaken: Storm King and Shandaken: Catskill, educational initiatives, and commission programs like Shandaken: 14×48, the organization creates possibilities for cultural practitioners to forge new pathways in their work and in the world. Shandaken Projects believes that research, experimentation, and the pursuit of new ideas are vital steps in the progress of culture, and that the creative community must safeguard space for them.
